DAY 6-ASHEVILLE TO LEWISBURG and the BUNKER

Please see Gail and John's writeup for this day for the Farewell Banquet in red way below.

The day started with the usual 8 AM driver's meeting led by Ken. There were several choices for the day, including going to Davy Crockett's Birthplace State Park and Museum in Limestone, TN.

We, however, were concerned that we wouldn't make the  300 miles  to the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulfur Springs for our 3:30 PM Bunker Tour, if we diverted from going straight there.  Hence we skipped Davy Crockett, as well as some other parts of the scenic route.
Unfortunately when planning MOA, we didn't know about "Tail of the Dragon" road, or would possibly have added it in here.
It was another beautiful day of driving, with Jan and Stan following in their Forgan (Mustang convertible).

We arrived in Jonesborough before most of the stores and coffee shops were open, so we did a pit stop and headed on our way.

As we had Garmin displaying "Arrival Time", we decided we could stop for a  a quick lunch at Dairy Queen, a new restaurant for Jen & Stan.

Luck was with us as we arrived in White Sulfur Springs Just In Time. It did take us a few minutes to find the proper entrance to the hotel, and we were pleased to find that special parking had been made available to us. I never did find out who to thank for that.

Twenty of us took the very enjoyable Bunker Tour. Unfortunately we weren't permitted to take photos on the tour. We did manage to move the Morgans for a photo op at the hotel. (Colin, do you have a better photo?)

While I had thought we might have dinner at the Greenbrier, instead we all headed to our hotel in Lewisburg,WV, where many of us had dinner at Ruby Tuesday's.
Another wonderful day on MOA.

"The Day of Secrets:
1. Davy Crockett'- Yes? No? Tennessee Birthplace seen through a grimy, barred cabin window.
2. The "used to be" Top Secret US Government Cold War Secure Bunker in case of Nuclear attack- amazing built underneath the elegant West Virginia Greenbrier Hotel.
3. The "fun" secret-hurtling along miles of scenic roads through the Appalachians behind Mike and Patsy following a local knowing the roads, ignoring speed signs.
4. No secret- Truly memorable  Days of Adventure.
Thank You All!  John and Gail"
