THIRTY MORGANS SIGN UP

The list is growing rapidly of people interested in MOA VI- 2015. We have 30 Morgan owners who have  expressed serious interest in the trip. In January 2014, non-refundable (but transferable) deposits will be requested to assure a spot on the trip. At this point, we haven't determined how many places there will be on the trip, but we do know that 43 cars is too many and 20 works well (keep up the good work George and Moira).

For those who have not been on our Morgans Over America trips, we work with a travel agent on booking rooms, and the participants pay the travel agent directly- generally in 2 payments. Individuals do not deal directly with the hotels/motels. At this time we do not know the average daily room rate for 2015- but for budgeting purposes, plan $175 per day (we will definitely try for lower). We include staying at historical hotels, and then prefer motels where we keep our Morgans outside the door. It is difficult to deal with participants who do not do the entire trip, so please plan on the entire trip.

For shipping from UK and Australia, we will look for a volunteer(s)  from each country to coordinate the shipping from that country. Shipping will be TO Savannah, Georgia and FROM Norfolk, Virginia. There are shipping routes with the same carriers that call at both ports. We will probably "FedEx" some Morgans from the West Coast to Savannah, unless everyone decides to drive there and back.

We also hope to make contact with local Morgan and British car clubs for visiting along the route. On MOA IV, an entire town brought out the band, and a Wings and Wheels festival was held at the airport museum- great fun.

VISIT OTTAWA & QUEBEC CITY CANADA

One of our 2 night stops will be in Ottawa,  Canada's Capital, a city which we have not visited before on any Morgan's Over America- see Ottawa Tourism . We will skip Toronto and Montreal this trip, and instead spend two nights each in Ottawa and Quebec City before heading southeast  toward Prince Edward Island -see PEI tourism. We so enjoyed Quebec City on a prior trip and missed making it to PEI.

20 MORGANS SIGNED UP

There has been a terrific response to our first communication for Morgans Over America VI 2015.  Twenty potential participants (Morgans)  have signed up so far, with Morgans  from the US, Canada, UK, Switzerland, and Australia. Some are repeat Morganeers from MOA III, IV and V and some are new.
In January 2014, we will start requesting registration deposits, so that we can start booking hotels with a clear idea of the numbers of rooms needed. As before, the entire amount for hotels will be paid to our travel agent in advance
As last time, we discourage not doing the entire route, as it makes planning very difficult and unfairly puts the extra costs on the full participants. However, we will make a final decision on this when we determine the actual numbers of full participants.

VISIT CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

We will be spending 2  nights in  Charleston, SC, the city which was Conde Nast Travelers Readers Choice for 2011 US city to visit.
The city is full of History and our visit can include antebellum mansion tours, Fort Sumpter, street markets, churches and many other historic places.

ROUTE BEGINNING AND END

The decision was made to start MOA VI in Savannah, Georgia as it is a busy big port on the east coast of the US to ship cars from UK and easy to reach by air.
Participants can arrive early and spend extra  time  visiting this wonderful city of  Savannah, Georgia.
The end will be in/near  Colonial Williamsburg with shipping and flying out o
of Norfolk, VA which is nearby.
Both of these cities are very historic and provide insight into American history.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MOA VI

Experience North American History while driving your Morgan over scenic roads in the Eastern US and Canada. Join with Morganeers from America, UK and other countries on a 38 day journey through 14 states and 5 Canadian provinces.

The Steve Roake Memorial Morgans Over America VI will start about September 10, 2015, in Savannah, Georgia, and end in Williamsburg/Norfolk West Virginia. It will include some of the roads and sites visited in Morgans Over America IV, with many new places to see and visit.

This adventure is being organized again by Ken Miles of the  Morgan Sport Car Club of Canada, the Morgan Owners Group North West, and Elaine Fisher of the Morgan Sports Car Club of Northern California, and the Morgan Sports Car Club UK.  Elaine and Ken organized MOA IV and V, with able assistance from UK Morganeers in shipping the vehicles to the US.

Steve Roake, in whose memory we are doing this trip, a long time member of the Morgan Sports Car Club of Northern California and many other antique car clubs,  along with Jeremy Harrison and Keith Cox of the UK Morgan Clubs, organized the first three Morgans  Over America Trips.

Mark your calendars, indicate your interest in the adventure, and follow along on this blog   for updates on the planning.
To indicate your interest in joining us or meeting with us, please email Elaine at togetelaine@gmail.com or Ken at kengmiles@telus.net

MOA VI BEGINS

I had suggested to Ken that we discuss the possibility of MOA VI and he was non-commital, but also very busy. Today at an MOA lunch, I received Belgian/French Morgan owner if there was going to be another trip.
Since I will be retiring soon, and have 4 years to plan, and IF Ken is willing to work with me on it, I think we can plan to do one.
I was thinking about the reverse of MOA III- New Orleans to Nova Scotia, but with a somewhat different route, taking in some of the places that Charlie went on his trip last years Morgan Pub Crawl well as some of the places we went on   MOA III
Nothing will surpass the beauty of MOA V, but we can have a fun time as well with an Eastern route.
Let's see what Ken says and if Jeremy is interested.
